Minutes from the March 6, 2005 meeting in Holyoke, MA at the Log Cabin Restaurant.

Meeting called to order 1:30pm by President Jean Janotta.

Introduction of those present was done before the wonderful buffet that MaryAnn and Joe organized for us.

Affiliate Report – Sharon Ruppel

ASCA BOD Candidates: Michelle Berryessa, Ann DeChant (incumbent), Pete Dolan, Peter Hellmeister (incumbent), Peter Kontos, Jan Wesen.
Sharon also reported that the University of Missouri has the new Phenone Project, ASCA has voted and may possibly donate $2,000.

BoD Report - representative not present

Committee Reports

Agility: Pete Dolan reported the committee has developed a list of tasks to be accomplished which will strengthen and improve the agility program, with the committee trying to get the rules in line and up to date. Pete also mentioned that there were nine members on the committee and there should be thirteen. Anyone interested is encouraged to send a resume to Jo Kimes. Pete concluded that the fees for submitting late results has increased to $10/day for each late day.
Bylaw: representative not present.
Conformation: Peter Kontos reported the committee is going through the rules page by page. In addition, puppies can be intact or not.
Dispute: no representative present.
DNA & Genetics: no representative present.
Juniors: Cindy King reported the committee is going through the rules to refine, tighten and be more specific about the patterns that can be used in Junior competition. There is also work on Stockdog revisions for the Juniors.
Obedience: Joyce Leach discussed "Rally-O" for the group describing it as similar to agility, but not as structured as traditional obedience. There are three levels of titles available with Rally-O.
Stockdog: Bill King reported the committee is working with the Junior committee on the Junior Stockdog program, working on the score sheet, and policies regarding the makeup of the committee are being reviewed.
Tracking: Celeste Kelly reported the committee is involved in "catch up" of the rules and regulations, particularly in the draw order for trials with a recommendation being prepared to go to the BoD. They are also working on refining and tightening up recommendations for judges. Sue Schroeder was introduced as a new Tracking Judge.
Versatility: no report.

Library Report - Cindy King

The library was on display at the entrance to the banquet room and drew a great deal of interest.

Sunshine Report - Jean Janotta

A donation of $250 will be made to Greener Pastures Rescue (a horse rescue organization) in memory of Gil Gagnon.
An additional $200 will be sent to ASGHI in Gail Duval's name. This was done to bring the original donation in line with past donations.
Joyce Leach was in attendance and looking well after cancer treatment. Wallace Leach is also recovering from bypass surgery last October.

February 5 & 6, Breed & Obedience in Seekonk, MA: Sue Winters reported they had a fine time and a fine turnout.
February 18-21 Barb Demascio Agility Seminar in West Brookfield, MA: Lyn Scribner reported that anyone who missed this seminar missed out on an "awesome" weekend.
February 27 Blood Draw: Sheila Dolan thanked everyone who had pitched in that day as she had been ill. She reported blood from 33 dogs had been drawn with 6 more to be drawn privately. Combined with the Beacon draw the count is over 100 dogs for New England.
March 26 & 27 Rescue Show - Breed & Obedience, Paws 'N Effect in Hamden, CT: Brenda Dean reported that things are moving along and thanked everyone who has made a donation for trophies and noted that the raffle will be on Saturday only.
April 2 Tracking Clinic at the Strafford County Court House in Dover, NH: Celeste Kelly reported that there may be one more working spot available, but still plenty of room for people to audit.
April 10 Tracking Test in Stratham, NH: Barbara Barreiro is the secretary and Sue Schroeder will be the judge.
April 23 Intro to Herding: This will be at Tenley Dexter's in CT with the rain date to be April 24.
May 28 & 29 ASCA/NADAC Agility Trial & Try Stock-n-Go at Hopkinton Fair Grounds in Contoocook, NH: Jean Janotta thanked Brenda Dean's daughter-in-law for all her help with the printing, etc.
June 2 - 5 Bob Vest Sheep Clinic in CT: Contact Tenley Dexter.
June 4 & 5 Breed and Obedience in Auburn, MA: Keli Gaunt reported that the event is moving along smoothly and Terry Collins has donated one day of rent.
June 6 - 9 Bob Vest Sheep clinic in NH.
June 10 & 11 Bob Vest Cattle Clinic in Middletown, CT: Contact Tenley Dexter and please note the change of date.
June 12 Sheep, Cattle & Duck Trial in CT: Contact Tenley Dexter and please note the change of date.
The date of the October Tracking test has been moved to October 9 this year, in consideration of the date of the Nationals.
November 6 ASCNE Meeting in NH: This meeting will be moving from Jean Janotta's home to Matt Mason's farm in Salisbury, NH. There will be stock work before and after the meeting.

2005 Calendar

Bob Vest cattle clinic dates have been changed to June 10 & 11 at Linc's field.
The ASCA sheep/cattle/duck trial date has been moved to June 12th.
There will not be a May ASCNE Ranch or Post Advanced trial at Linc Keiser's, they will be dong an AHBA Ranch Trial instead.
Harvest Moon Mania, Peter Kontos asked if there would be interest in an adult handling seminar as the junior seminar was such a hit – there appeared to be a significant amount of interest.

2005 ASCA National Pre-show Update

Peter Kontos reported there has been a judge change from Terri Altergott to Ginger Abbott.
Four more stewards are needed for breed – 2 breed judges have already volunteered to be stewards for ASCNE
Sheila Dolan has volunteered to help with hospitality
Pam Parker has volunteered to repeat as the breed announcer

New England ASCA Nationals Exploratory Update

Pete Dolan has looked over the Sussex County Fairgrounds in NJ as a possible site for the 2007 Nationals. He has emailed seven clubs concerning their interest in being part of the Nationals and the feedback has been positive. Discussions are still under way with contacts for cattle (the Ag Manager of the fairgrounds and Andy Camputaro). A $50 refundable deposit to hold the September 29 - October 6, 2007 dates has been sent to the fairgrounds. 2007 will be the fiftieth anniversary of ASCA and it will mark twenty-one years since the Nationals were held in the Northeast. It is too early for hard dollar figures but the Sussex County Fairgrounds offers 3 stock rings, 2 - 3 agility rings, admin building, 152 stalls, 175 RV spaces, golf carts and radios among others things. Joyce Leach made a motion to move forward with sending the application to the ASCA BoD, Heather Braddock was the second. The motion passed with one opposed.

2006 ASCA National Dates

West Bend, WI with dates of September 15 - September 22, 2006 (Friday to Friday).

Aussie Times Ad

Robin Goodman made a motion to put an ad in the Aussie Times from ASCNE in support of Peter Kontos and Pete Dolan. The motion was seconded and passed with two in opposition.

2005 Nationals Preshow Donation

Cindy King brought up for discussion the possibility of donating the proceeds or a portion of the proceeds from the breed pre-show to one of the epilepsy studies. Sheila Dolan mentioned the following organizations: UofMO is funded for epilepsy, funds are needed for the UofMO Phenome Project, Toby Foundation (pet owners of epileptic dogs), and ASGHI. It was decided to review the idea.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 pm with the ROM presentations following.

Next meeting will be July 10, 2005 at the Griffin home in Douglas, MA.
